'twas the night before christmas

12.24.13  |  Celebrations, Personal

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there...

Wishing you and your family a Happy Holiday and a wonderful New Year!

a lovely workshop

05.13.13  |  Nuptials, Fashion, Travel, Personal

I am excited to share a few LOVELY photographs I took while attending Elizabeth Messina's A Lovely Workshop at the Sea Island Resort in Georgia last month. Her workshop was truly an inspiration and I was so honored to learn from Elizabeth and her amazing friends Leah MacDonald, an incredible encaustic master and book maker and Martha Stewart Weddings photo editor Shira Savada.

I will be sharing some of my favorite photographs over the next few months from the styled shoots Elizabeth and her talented team dreamed up and put together. Please enjoy all the beauty and make sure to check out the websites from the talented people that contributed...

It took MANY creative individuals to produce the gorgeous styled shoots and all the prettiness for us to capture. The fashionable Ginny Branch was the talent behind the design, Blue Eyed Yonder styled the out the sets, and florist Amy Osaba put the finishing touches of flowers on from Fifty Flowers and Cut Flower. The models were draped in beautiful gowns from Chelsea Rose Bridal, Ivy & Aster, Claire Pettibone and The Sentimentalist. Gorgeous headpieces from my personal favorite Twigs & Honey and jewelry from Construct Jewelry completed their looks while hair and makeup artists Claudia Mejerle and Erin Skipley dolled them up to perfection.

We were also showered by so much magic and beauty the entire time with a swag bag from Wedding Chicks filled with gitfs and goodies from Cacao-Caline, Cupcake Vineyards, Shop Ruche, Plum Pretty Sugar, You Smell, Monkeys Always Look, TIBI, Artifact Uprising, Velvet Raptor, Wiley Valentine, Ice Milk Aprons, Southern Sprout and MANY MANY more!

It was truly a magical and inspiring three days...
How LOVELY indeed!

an irish lullaby

04.27.13  |  Travel, Personal

Over in Killarney
Many years ago,
Me Mither sang a song to me
In tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good ould Irish way,
And l'd give the world if she could sing
That song to me this day.

"Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, hush now, don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, that's an Irish lullaby."

Oft in dreams I wander
To that cot again,
I feel her arms a-huggin' me
As when she held me then.
And I hear her voice a -hummin'
To me as in days of yore,
When she used to rock me fast asleep
Outside the cabin door.

For my dearest and sweetest Grammy Lily, oh how I miss your sweet Irish Lullaby.

alchemy: the greening of san diego

01.13.13  |  Personal, Press

For those of you who don't know, my amazing husband Ron owns a neighborhood restaurant nestled in the beautiful community of South Park, San Diego called Alchemy Cultural Fare. Alchemy has a heart of gold and is very active in the community teaching cooking classes to children, bringing healthy lunch programs to schools and working with Seeds@City College Urban Farm to help cultivate the farmers of tomorrow. A national publication caught wind of what Alchemy has been up to and came out to do a story about The Greening of San Diego.

We took a field trip to Seeds@City College Urban Farm with the journalist, which is about 15 blocks from Alchemy, where Executive Chef Ricardo Heredia harvested ingredients to be used in that nights weekly 3-course Vegetarian Tasting Menu. Each week Chef Heredia and his team reach out to their network of local farms to find out what is fresh that day and create a unique menu for the night. Alchemy has been hosting their weekly Wednesday Vegetarian Tasting Menu since they opened back in 2009 and they haven't repeated one yet!

Check out the tasty menu Ricardo cooked up from what he gathered that day...

king trumpet mushroom soup with truffle espuma

petite lettuce, english cucumber, early seasoned peach and gooseberry with green goddess dressing

quinoa croquette with lava bean puree and carrot caviar accompanied by braised garlic chard and corn bread with home-made chive butter

If you're in the neighborhood stop by for a bite and say hi!
